I finally had the opportunity to experience the informal settlements first-hand rather than simply learn about them theoretically. This has made me realize how crucial it is to plan with people, rather than for them.
Zusiphe is an intern at DAG with a primary focus on assisting community leaders to develop their ability to lead change and providing socio-technical support to those in the communities. She interacts with the public and collaborates with local communities to develop potential solutions for housing and basic needs. Zusiphe is extremely passionate about the advancement of individuals, especially those in marginalized groups. She believes that knowledge really is power and believes working at DAG gives one a platform to develop daily. Zusiphe is thrilled to be contributing to the advancement of communities that have been oppressed and neglected now in a post-apartheid country. She is studying towards a Diploma in Urban and Regional Planning at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT.)
