DAG Makes Compliance with the Property Development Industry Accessible

DAG’s Contractor and Developer Academy (CDA) has been supporting emerging contractors’ and developers’ capacity to deliver affordable housing developments. The CDA’s regular interaction with communities through information sessions further equip those within the property development industry by informing participants of the regulatory frameworks that need to be adhered to when constructing and developing rental flats.

On February 8th, the CDA hosted an information session for property owners and micro-developers at Lookout Hill Tourism Centre in Khayelitsha which focused on compliance in property rental development and the City of Cape Town’s development charge subsidy. The session was well attended by developers and built environment professionals, with over 60 participants joining on the day.

We are pleased to share that this information session also included collaboration with the National Housing Finance Corporation (NHFC), an organisation that provides innovative and affordable housing finance solutions for the low-to-middle-income market.

The discussion highlighted relevant aspects of the development process including the submission of building plans, gaps with current financial models, and the importance of adhering to regulatory requirements. Participants also spoke about how different entities of government, especially those in the Human Settlements sector, can better support the work of emerging property owners and micro-developers in scaling up the delivery of affordable rental accommodation.

Keep an eye out for upcoming information sessions that will be held across Cape Town, including:
